Project Overview:
In December of 2018, Colorado welcomed the largest hotel to the state, the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center in Aurora. The $800 million project brought in more than just a 1.9 million square foot, 1,500-room hotel, but also retail, commercial, an convention space, an indoor/outdoor pool, a 22,000 square foot indoor recreational park, and a convention facility.
You can find the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center just south of the Denver International Airport sitting on 85-acres of land overlooking the breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains. With its perfect location near the airport for travelers, the hotel is estimated to bring in 450,000 visitors to the state annually. Some of the resort features include an 800-ft lazy river, expansive event lawns, a resort-style outdoor pool, an indoor pool venue, and much more.
Building Challenge:
HKS Inc., the head architects on this project, inspired by the traditional architecture of mountain chalets, wanted to help Marriott create their own version of a Colorado ski lodge. The hotel needed to convey comfort, but it would also need to display the beautiful background view of the Rocky Mountains.
VT’s Contribution:
VT's Eggers Division provided 212 stile and rail doors for this project. The veneers are plain sliced and quarter sliced Walnut with a clear finish featuring a random/random/stack and slip match assemblies to create a stunning architectural aesthetic.
