History

Since 1956, VT has created beautiful doors and countertop surfaces for homes and businesses across the country. We hope to sustain the success that we've had over the past 60 years by staying in motion and continuing to manufacture new, innovative products that give our customers more.

  • 1956 - Roger Clausen founds Van-Top, Inc. in Holstein, IA
  • 1958 - Manufacturing furniture (wonder bar) in a rented chicken coop in Holstein, 
  • 1962 - Roger Clausen makes customer calls in his Piper Comanche 250
  • 1963 - Architectural door production starts
  • 1964 - Relocates to 45,000 square foot plant north of Holstein
  • 1977 - Doug Clausen becomes General Manager of VT's first branch postforming plant in Houston, Texas
  • 1980 - VT of Indiana postforming plant opens in Shelbyville
  • 1982 - Door operation in Holstein revamped with state-of-the-art European equipment
  • 1984 - Postforming plant moves from Houston to Bryan, Texas
  • 1987 - Installation of door core composer in Holstein manufacturing plant
  • 1989 - Doug Clausen becomes company president
  • 1990 - U.V. cured flat finishing line installed in Holstein, IA
  • 1990 - VTI of Georgia postforming plant opens
  • 1992 - Named Woodworking Machinery Importer Association's Innovator of the Year
  • 1993 - Opens V-T Inc. in Roseburg, Oregon
  • 1994 - Barcoding all doors during production process starts
  • 1995 - VT of Iowa relocates from Holstein to Sac City, IA
  • 1997 - First AIA/CES presentation in cooperation with Georgia CSI and Georgia AIA
  • 1998 - Acquires Belangers Laminates, Inc. in Quebec, Canada
  • 2001 - Corporate office addition built
  • 2002 - Sani-Top Inc. in Gardena, California becomes the V-T Inc. West postforming plant
  • 2005 - Roger Clausen inducted into The Kitchen and Bath Industry Hall of Fame
  • 2006 - VT celebrates 50 years in business
  • 2007 - Acquires Ideal Doors and opens the New Albany, Indiana facility
  • 2008 - Corporate office addition begins (completed in 2009)
  • 2009 - Fixed lead time program for standard doors start
  • 2011 - Hagerstown, MD laminate countertop manufacturing facility opens (Indiana facility closes)
  • 2011 - VT receives Home Depot Partner of the Year Award
  • 2013 - Acquires Creative Composites, Ltd. 
  • 2014 - Introduces exclusive laminate Capture Collection
  • 2014 - TruQuartz - VT's exclusive quartz line hits the market
  • 2015 - Versatop quartz surfaces launches
  • 2015 - Acquires Supa Doors
  • 2015 - Acquires Moulders MG in Quebec, Canada
  • 2015 - Acquires Capitoline Products, Inc.
  • 2016 - A'vant Vanity program launches
  • 2016 - VT celebrates 60th anniversary
  • 2016 - 10 million doors produced
  • 2018 - VT acquires Eggers Industries
