VT Industries, Inc. Fine Laminate Countertop Division Achieves FSC® Chain of Custody Certification
(Holstein, IA, January 10, 2011) – VT Industries’ Fine Laminate Countertop Division has achieved Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) Chain of Custody (COC) Certification (FSC-C103836). Certification allows VT to label their EQcountertop product with an FSC claim, which is a requirement for assistance with achieving Certified Wood credits for nearly all LEED Green Building Rating Systems, both commercial and residential. EQcountertop is available from all seven of VT’s manufacturing facilities, providing FSC certified postform laminate countertops to all of North America.
In order to hold a valid FSC COC certificate, manufacturers must be reviewed by a FSC accredited third-party certifier for compliance. Manufacturers are required to provide evidence, incorporate written procedures, and label their products in accordance with FSC requirements. This ensures all FSC labeled products are manufactured using wood that is sourced from FSC certified forests. Once certified, all COC holders are audited yearly to ensure continued compliance with FSC standards.
EQcountertops are constructed with no added urea-formaldehyde, FSC certified substrate materials and hold a FSC claim of “FSC Mixed Credit”. FSC Mixed Credit products are valued at 100% of their cost for LEED project credit achievement. These countertops can also assist with regional material and indoor air quality credits under LEED rating systems.
VT’s strategically placed manufacturing facilities along with an extensive PRO Team fabricator network, allows architects, builders, and owners to source countertops to meet all FSC project specifications.
“We are pleased to announce VT’s Fine Laminate Countertop Division is now FSC COC certified to meet our fabricator and customer requirements. EQcountertops and our architectural wood door offerings allow VT to be your single source for FSC certified products. We are committed to the environment and will continue to lead our industry in sustainable building product offerings,” stated Trisha Schmitt, VT Industries’ Vice President Corporate Marketing.
