VT provided 259 doors for Burns & McDonnell's new four-story, 310,000 sq. foot facility at corporate headquarters in Kansas City. With this new expansion, Burns & McDonnell increased the size of its world headquarters by 74 percent. This is the third building on the firm’s 37-acre campus.
Included in the 310,000 sq. foot addition is a learning academy with a focus on STEM education, full-service pharmacy, employee health care center, credit union, barista, rooftop event space, 250-seat auditorium, 60 conference rooms, four large training rooms, along with more office space to accommodate the additional 1,400 employees.
Among the doors installed were fire ratings ranging from 45- 90 minute, acoustical ratings, along with seven pocket doors. The team ultimately selected the Hackberry veneer for the doors to compliment the adjacent paneling. Hackberry is a unique veneer becoming more and more popular for uses like kitchen cabinets, inexpensive furniture, and boxes and crates.
American Direct, Burns & McDonnell, and VT Industries worked together to create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind workplace completed with Hackberry woodwork for the veneers, walls, and ceiling panels. The expansion spanned a total of 17 months to complete. With VT’s quick lead times, the project team was able to complete the job on-time and under budget.
