Architectural Wood DoorsTops & Surfaces

WSU Paul G. Allen Center

Project Features

  • The doors provided were up to 90-minute fire-rated.
  • With the need to match the project’s finish color set forth by the architect, all doors were made specifically for the project.
  • By using low-VOC emitting, sustainable materials, all doors were manufactured with the environment in mind.

Project Overview:

The Paul G. Allen Center for Global Animal Health is located on the campus of Washington State University adjacent to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The center was built to accommodate the delicate research of emerging diseases that affect both humans and animals since many infectious diseases are transmitted through animal-human interface.

Building Challenge:

The center needed a variety of doors including conference, classroom, and laboratory doors. The challenge was to provide doors that allow for a safe research environment while allowing visitors or students to watch without entering the lab. The doors also needed to match the millwork throughout the building and provide the security of being fire-rated.

VT’s Contribution:

With wood being used in other applications of the project, the doors had to match the millwork package flawlessly. To maximize the use of the space, certain laboratories featured doors with full lite glass and the finish was bright to keep the space light.

With safety and openness as necessary attributes, VT doors provided the perfect amount of brightness and protection for people in the laboratories.
