Project Profile

Stanford Medicine recognized the need for outstanding ambulatory care in the Redwood City, California area and set to work to build a campus specifically dedicated to outpatient services and care. Just two short years later, the Stanford Medicine Outpatient Center welcomed patients and staff providing world-class care in a beautiful, healing environment.

VT's Contribution

VT Industries partnered with Fastrac Building Supply to provide the architectural wood door solutions for the nearly 360,000 square-foot campus. The campus features ninety-six exam rooms and six operating rooms, an extensive outpatient clinic, and office space and clinics for the 100+ Stanford faculty physicians from the School of Medicine.

Over 420 doors were manufactured for the project and featured crossbanded particleboard (5502H), crossbanded structural composite lumber (5508H), and Pyroforce® fire-rated cores. The doors achieved fire ratings ranging from smoke non-rated up to 90-minutes. Additionally, two different door looks were specified- a wood veneer look and a painted look. The wood veneer doors showcased beautiful AA-grade, quarter-sliced walnut veneers that were book and balance matched with a clear finish. The painted doors were factory-primed opaque.

The doors within the facility were a mix of traditional swinging doors and sliding doors. A majority of the exam rooms featured the sliding doors with the Serenity Sliding Door System which was perfect for the application because it has a soft open/close system with an STC Rated sound seal, for privacy.
