Outfitted with your chosen samples, it is time to narrow your options. In existing applications, it is a good idea to tape your sample chips to your wall at eye level. This will give you a good idea of how your new countertop will fit your design. For new or large remodel projects, compare laminate chips with all paint, flooring and cabinet samples. Be sure to compare your samples to your cabinets, walls and flooring during the day as well as night, as your laminate may have separate visual effects under different light sources.

Whether replacing worn countertops or building a whole new kitchen, remember to take your time. Give yourself at least one week to weigh your options. You will be living with your final choice for many years, so it is important to start your process early to avoid being rushed.

With your laminate and profile finalized, it's time to select your installer. Use your PRO Team member or ask them to suggest to a skilled installer. This is an important decision, your installer will need to take exact measurements, layout the most suitable locations of seams and finally order your countertops. If your project involves new cabinets, measurements need to taken after all cabinets have been installed. This is the only way to guarantee a perfect fit. Once your countertops have been measured and ordered, you are now ready to schedule an installation date.

Cutouts for sinks and cooktops are made on-site during installation, so have your fixtures or templates on hand. There is no room for guessing in the installation process. Before your installer arrives, clean out your base cabinets to ensure nothing will be broken or covered in sawdust. This makes life easier for the installer as well. Finally, talk to your installer about disposing of your old countertops. This may be included in the install price or other arrangements may need to be made.
